What We Do

At Erlas Victorian Walled Garden, our mission is to create a welcoming, supportive space where adults with additional needs can flourish. Through gardening, crafting, and a variety of meaningful day-to-day tasks, we offer a therapeutic and purposeful environment that helps individuals grow in confidence, independence, and wellbeing.

Our peaceful garden in the heart of Wrexham offers much more than just flowers and vegetables—it’s a place of friendship, routine, and opportunity. Each person who comes to Erlas is celebrated for who they are, and we take pride in supporting a wide range of abilities with activities that match their interests and strengths.

We understand that many of our beneficiaries face real challenges in their lives. That’s why we focus on what people can do, not what they can’t. From potting plants and tending vegetables to painting signs or creating beautiful crafts, every task contributes to the life of the garden—and to the self-esteem of the person doing it.

Our team includes staff, volunteers, and the people we support, all working together to make the garden thrive. Every smile, every job well done, every shared cup of tea is part of what makes Erlas so special.

Voted the UK’s Best Community Garden for Health and Wellbeing

Pride in Our Achievement

We are incredibly proud that Erlas Victorian Walled Garden was voted the UK’s Best Community Garden for Health and Wellbeing at the Royal Horticultural Society Community Awards.

This national recognition celebrates the work that takes place across the garden every day — supporting adults with additional needs to take part in meaningful activities, learn new skills, and enjoy the benefits of spending time in nature.

At Erlas, the garden is more than just a beautiful space. It is a place where friendships grow, confidence develops, and people can feel a genuine sense of belonging. Our beneficiaries, volunteers and staff team all play a vital role in creating the welcoming and supportive community that the award recognises.

We are deeply proud of this achievement and grateful to everyone who helps make Erlas such a special place.
