Evening visit by Holt History Society and Wrexham Soroptomist Societies

Following a rather heavy shower of rain last Thursday evening, 21st July, a number of volunteers and Directors entertained over 30 visitors from the Holt History Society and the Wrexham Soroptomist Society.

After a presentation of the Walled Gardens’ History and development, by Ann, (Charity Officer) the visitors were keen to tour the gardens and wild-life areas. The weather held, and, on returning to the education building, everyone was able to sample home made mulberry flan, scones with fresh cream and jam, and shortbread. A special thanks to Sheila and Kate for baking – everything went! The visitors were asked to fill in consultation questionnaires, to establish whether they agreed with EVWG’s ambitious plans for expansion and development, and again, we received unanimous support for this. The groups were very generous and also bought lots of fresh produce, including peaches, potatoes, runner beans, courgettes and home-made confetti. Many plants were also purchased, with positive comments on the variety of plants available.

Thanks to Stan and Mike too, for helping host the evening, when £165 was made.

The previous week , we were also visited by the Erdigg Nordic Walkers (again!), and by the Rossett HRT Ladies Group, receiving around £140 donations after tea and light refreshments were provided.

If you would like to visit the gardens during the summer months, and hear about our development plans – and see what we have available to buy in the gardens, then please contact Ann, Ian or Libby on 01978 265058.

Our mulberries will need cropping soon – we expect they will be ready during August…….
